Politics and Testimony. Political Implications of Jan Patočka’s and Edith Stein’s Testimony

I investigate the complex relationship between politics and philosophy by focusing on notion of testimony. argue that there is a necessary fruitful tension sapiential political life. Testimony characterized here as free value-response in an intersubjective relation requires empathy both sides communication. This act affirming truth or value goes beyond limits prudent self-realization self-preservation: authentic testimony some kind self-sacrifice. contrast this general image to Jan Patočka’s interpretation «care for soul». Patočka, following early Husserl’s renewal philosophy, managed establish preserve harmony theory praxis even during persecution communist regime. His courageous acts come close illuminate Edith Stein, who set measure philosophical authenticity self-donation. The comparison these two testimonies helps elaborate exemplary life — highly relevant politics.
